What we built
A storefront for a fictional Lagos residential electrician, built around a question every service business in this category has to answer: is this routine, or is this an emergency?
We answered it with an interactive section called Symptom Checker. The visitor picks the issue that matches their problem from a grid of six symptoms (flickering lights, dead outlet, breaker tripping, partial power outage, sparks or burning smell, shock from a fixture). Each pick returns:
- A plain-language likely cause so the customer knows what is going on
- An immediate action (“safe-to-try checks” for routine, “do this right now” for emergencies)
- The right CTA for the situation: WhatsApp with a prefilled booking message for routine, or a phone-call CTA with safety-first language for emergencies
Why this shape
Trades businesses lose money in two directions at once:
- Emergencies that go to WhatsApp sit in the queue and create real safety risk
- Routine bookings that go to the phone clog the line and stop emergencies getting through
Most service sites have one CTA for everything, which means everyone takes the same path. The triage forks the path before the customer is in the inbox or on the line.
What is on the page
- Hero with licence claim, guarantee, and dual CTAs (WhatsApp book / phone call)
- Trust strip with NIEEE licence, same-day service, rating, and no-callout-fee promise
- Symptom checker, the interactive section. Two visual styles: amber for routine, red for emergency. Result panel scrolls into view with safety advice.
- How it works, three-step buyer journey
- Services, four packages (callout, rewiring, installations, safety inspection) with on-card pricing
- About us, founder story with service area and hours
- Reviews from three regulars across Lagos mainland and island
- FAQ with six common service-delivery and pricing questions
- Final CTA in the brand’s deep slate card with both WhatsApp and phone options
Stack
- Astro 5 + Tailwind 3
- Vanilla TypeScript for the triage state machine
- Inter Tight (display) + Inter (body), the trades-services standard pair
- Cream, slate, and amber palette for trustworthy-modern utility brand
Why this matters
A “Book a callout” button is the same page every electrician has. The triage is a clear demonstration that we understand the shape of the business: not every visitor is the same, and routing them differently is the difference between a stressful day and a smooth one.
